Daintree & Cape Tribulation.

Most visitors join a guided day tour from Cairns, which takes care of the coach transport, the Daintree River ferry crossing and all the stops along the way. If you're driving yourself, the same vehicle ferry is required to cross the river, and while the main roads are sealed and fine for a normal car, a 4WD is only needed if you continue past Cape Tribulation onto the Bloomfield Track.

A full-day tour from Cairns typically runs from early morning until early evening, with hotel pickup and drop-off included. Most itineraries combine a Daintree River cruise, rainforest boardwalk stops and free time at Cape Tribulation Beach.

The Daintree region is crocodile habitat, so swimming in rivers, creeks and estuaries isn't recommended. At the beach, only swim where signage confirms it's safe, and always follow crocodile warning signs and ranger advice.

Keep an eye out for cassowaries and tree kangaroos in the rainforest, plus a huge variety of birdlife, while estuarine crocodiles are commonly spotted on a Daintree River cruise.

Tours run year-round. The dry season (roughly May to October) brings the most comfortable weather and easiest road access, while the wet season (November to April) means lush, dramatic scenery but a higher chance of heavy rain and ferry delays.
