Swim with the Salties is a unique wildlife encounter at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas where participants enter a purpose-built pool and swim just centimetres away from large Estuarine (Saltwater) Crocodiles.

The experience allows you to swim extremely close to the crocodiles, separated from them by the specially designed CrocArena enclosure. It provides an underwater perspective of these enormous reptiles that is very different from viewing them from a normal enclosure.

The complete experience takes approximately 45 minutes, including the safety briefing and preparation. Actual time in the water with the crocodiles is approximately 10 minutes, although this can vary between sessions.

Current session times are 10:00am, 10:45am, 11:30am, 12:45pm and 1:30pm. The 10:45am and 11:30am sessions currently need to be booked by phone.

Participants must check in at Wildlife Habitat reception 45 minutes before their scheduled swim time. This allows enough time for registration, the safety briefing and preparation.

Participants must be at least 8 years old. Anyone aged 8–17 must have parental consent and be accompanied by an adult or person over 18. Proof of age is required.

Yes. Participants must be able to swim unaided without a flotation device and must also be physically capable of getting up and down the stairs or steps without assistance.

The experience takes place inside the purpose-built CrocArena, with experienced staff supervising participants. A comprehensive safety briefing is compulsory, and a staff member remains within easy access throughout the swim.

The experience is limited to a maximum of four swimmers at one time, making it a relatively small and personal wildlife encounter.

Bring swimwear, a towel, a hat and comfortable, easy-to-wear shoes. Wildlife Habitat recommends wearing your swimwear underneath your clothes before arriving so you can maximise your available swim time.

Yes. The Swim with the Salties experience includes entry to Wildlife Habitat, and the current offering also includes five days of re-entry, allowing you to return to the park during that period.
