The Hervey Bay Ultimate Whale Watch is a 3-hour small-group whale-watching cruise aboard the purpose-built Ocean Defender. The tour travels into the calm, protected waters of Hervey Bay and Platypus Bay, where humpback whales stop during their annual migration.

The main whale-watching season runs from July to October, when thousands of humpback whales migrate along Australia's east coast. Hervey Bay is an important resting and socialising area for many of these whales.

The Ultimate Whale Watch is approximately 3 hours, giving you plenty of time to travel into the whale-watching areas and observe the whales without rushing

The tour is designed as a small-group experience. The Ocean Defender has a maximum capacity of 40 passengers, providing plenty of space and unobstructed 360-degree views from the water level.

Whale-watching regulations and Pacific Whale Foundation's own guidelines prevent the vessel from deliberately approaching within 100 metres of a whale. However, whales can choose to approach the vessel themselves and may sometimes come remarkably close.

Whale sightings are guaranteed during the specified guarantee period of 15 July to 9 October. If you don't see whales during this period, Pacific Whale Foundation provides a complimentary return ticket valid for up to one year. Outside the guarantee period, whales are still the focus of the tour but sightings cannot be guaranteed.

The cruise departs from Urangan Harbour at the Great Sandy Straits Marina. Check-in is at the Pacific Whale Foundation Ocean Store, and passengers should check in approximately 30 minutes before departure. Free parking is available at the marina.
