Immerse yourself in an authentic Indigenous cultural experience on the Hands On Country Eco Tour departing from Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal. Just a 15-minute vessel transfer will transport you into the world of the Mandingalbay Yidinji people, where you can explore significant places and learn about native rainforest foods near Cairns.

You will be warmly welcomed with a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony before journeying into the rainforest. Your guides personally share ancient knowledge and insights into Aboriginal customs, deepening your understanding of the strong connection between Country and culture.

The tour runs from 9am to 12pm and includes light refreshments such as tea, baked items, and fresh fruit. Prepare for biting insects at forested sites along the route; bring and wear light, long sleeves and pants/skirt, and personal insect repellent.

The minimum age for this tour is 5 years. Please wear sturdy, flat footwear and sun protection. Remember to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, camera, and any prescribed medications. The tour operates on demand, excluding Christmas Day.

The Hands On Country Eco Tour is a three-hour Indigenous cultural and eco-tourism experience hosted by Mandingalbay Yidinji Traditional Owners. The tour combines a scenic river cruise, wetlands and mangrove environments, an Indigenous cultural experience and a guided rainforest walk.

The tour takes approximately three hours, departing Cairns at 9:00am and returning at around 12:00pm.

The tour departs from Finger Wharf C at Cairns Marlin Marina. Guests should check in at Mooz Gelato and Juice Bar at Marina Point, 5/2 Pier Point Road, at approximately 8:45am before being escorted to the vessel.

Mandingalbay Yidinji Country is located across Trinity Inlet from Cairns. The river cruise takes only around 10–15 minutes, making this a convenient half-day experience without a long road transfer.

The cruise travels through Cairns Harbour and along Hills Creek, passing mangrove forests, wetlands and estuarine environments. The area is home to a variety of birdlife, fish and other wildlife, and there is also a chance to see saltwater crocodiles along the muddy banks at low tide.

The walk is not considered strenuous or particularly long, but some walking takes place on uneven ground. Sturdy, closed-in footwear with good grip is recommended.
